Evan Jake Cohen
Evan Jake Cohen is a New York City-based director of photography working in film, fashion, and commercials. After graduating from Emerson College, Evan began his film career in Los Angeles, and now lives in Brooklyn, traveling the U.S. and the world to shoot everything from narrative films and commercials to web series and promos for major networks and brands such as NBC Universal; American Eagle Outfitters; Heineken; and Subaru.
Recent highlights include THE PRIVATES from writer-director Dylan Allen, a Vimeo Staff Pick Premiere, Short of the Week, and winner of the 2017 Hammer to Nail Short Film Contest; LEMON from writer-director Timothy Cooper which premiered at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival; FILL YOUR HEART WITH FRENCH FRIES by writer-director Tamar Glezerman, a Vimeo Staff Pick and Short of the Week; THE WANNABE, starring Academy Award winner Patricia Arquette and Vincent Piazza, for his role as 2nd unit DP and ‘B’ camera operator working with DP Brett Pawlak and writer-director Nick Sandow, which also premiered at the TriBeCa Film Festival; TIME: THE KALIEF BROWDER STORY as a cinematographer to the TV mini-series by director Jenner Furst and executive producers Jay-Z, Harvey Weinstein, and David Glasser, which premiered at 2017 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for a MTV Movie Award for Best Documentary; and his work as DP for Mazda’s spot “Braeden’s Story” with Minnie Driver, named #3 on Ad Age’s list of the most effective holiday ads of the year.
With a passion for narrative work and admiration for the great cinematographers of both past and present, Evan travels to the Camerimage Film Festival in Poland as often as he can, having attended five times in recent years.
